Concrete for Agricultural Projects

Farm concrete takes heavy loads, chemicals and weather. Here's what matters when ordering for agricultural projects.

What agricultural concrete needs to handle

Agricultural slabs take heavy point loads from tractors and machinery, chemical exposure from slurry and silage effluent, and constant weather. The mix and thickness need to be up to it.

A C35 mix is typical for farm yards, livestock buildings and machinery areas. For silage clamps and slurry lagoons, a stronger, denser mix with special additives may be needed.

Slab thickness and reinforcement

A farm yard slab taking tractor traffic needs 150–200mm of concrete on a well-compacted sub-base. Steel mesh or fibres control cracking. Joints need to be planned so the slab doesn't crack under load.

For grain stores, the slab may need to carry the full weight of the grain plus the walls. Follow the engineer's spec for thickness and mix.

Delivery to the farm

Farm access is usually better than domestic — wide gates, hard tracks and open yards. But check for low overhead cables, soft gateways after wet weather, and weight-restricted bridges on the lane.

Agricultural pours can be large — 10m³ or more. We can schedule consecutive volumetric loads or arrange a pump for remote locations. Call us to discuss the project.
