The weight of normal concrete
Normal-density concrete weighs roughly 2,400 kg per cubic metre — that's 2.4 tonnes per m³. A 5m³ pour weighs around 12 tonnes, plus the weight of the wagon itself.
This matters for two reasons: the ground the wagon drives over, and the structure the concrete is poured onto.
Why weight matters for access
A loaded volumetric mixer can weigh over 30 tonnes. If the route to your pour crosses a weak drain cover, a thin bridge or soft ground, it may not take the weight. Check the access route and tell us about any concerns.
If the wagon can't get close, we can pump or barrow the concrete — but we need to know in advance.
Why weight matters for the structure
If you're pouring onto an existing floor or suspended slab, the wet concrete's weight is a real load. A 100mm pour over 20m² adds nearly 5 tonnes to the structure. Make sure it can carry the weight.
Lightweight concrete mixes are available for specific applications, but most structural concrete is normal density. If weight is a concern, talk to us and your engineer.
