The size of a volumetric mixer
Our volumetric mixer is an 8-wheel lorry — roughly 9 metres long, 2.5 metres wide and 3.8 metres high. It needs a route wide enough and with enough headroom for those dimensions, plus clearance for turning.
Most residential roads and drives can take it. The problems are usually narrow lanes, low bridges, height-restricted entrances and weak bridges.
What to check
Walk the route from the road to the pour location. Look for: narrow gates or piers, overhead cables and branches, weak drain covers, sharp corners with no room to turn, and weight-restricted bridges. If any of these apply, tell us when you request a quote.
Send us photos of the access — the entrance, the route and the pour area. We'll assess it and tell you if the wagon can reach it.
If access is tight
If the wagon can't get to the pour, you have options. We can discharge into a wheelbarrow and barrow the concrete to the pour location — practical for small pours up to about 1m³. For larger pours, a concrete pump can pipe the concrete up to 60 metres or more. See our wagon access guide for full details.
Pump hire adds cost, so it's worth checking access first. If you're unsure, call us with the details and we'll advise.
